OK I thought I take a little break from all the holiday posts and hauls to talk about something more serious. I recently received an email regarding the first annual Anti-Slavery Day on Monday October 18th. Up until recently like many people I thought that slavery had been abolished back in the 1830's and it was very much thing of the past, but alas this isn't the case. National Anti-Slavery Day which coincides with the European Unions Anti-Trafficking Day aims to help us acknowledge that despite the abolition of the slave trade in 1834 men, women and children continue to be victims of trafficking and exploitation. The 3 largest criminal industry in the world, over 2.5 million people are trafficked every year including a phenomenal estimated 1.2 million children who are thrown into a world of sexual abuse and exploitation. As you probably know in July of this year The Body Shop teamed up with EPCAT UK and as well as introducing a charity hand cream "Soft Hands Kind Hearts" they launched a petition to encourage the UK government to do more to prevent child sex trafficking, and to do more to help the victims. As part of the upcoming Anti-Slavery Day you can play your part - first of all sign the petition if you haven't already you can make a difference http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/_en/_gb/values-campaigns/stop-trafficking-sign-petition-market.aspx ,secondly consider purchasing The Body Shop Soft Hands Kind Hearts hand cream £2.36 from the £3.50 purchase price will go directly to EPCAT UK to help with their fight against child sex trafficking,
Finally take a moment out of your day be it now or on Monday October 18th to think about those less fortunate than yourselves and to make yourself aware - Please check out the EPCAT UK website and The Body Shop to learn more, and you can also find out more via their Facebook and Twitter pages x xx
Thanks for posting this. 21st Century slavery is still a major issue, and it's good to raise awareness. x
